Colleen Sowa

Colleen Sowa enters her second season as a volunteer assistant coach for sprints, hurdles, jumps and multi-events with the University of Minnesota track & field program after joining the Gophers for the 2017-18 campaign.
Prior to joining the Gophers staff, Sowa served as the head coach for girl’s track & field at River Falls High School from 2011-18. In that time, Sowa led the Wildcats to three-straight Big Rivers Conference girl’s team championships from 2013-15 as well as back-to-back WIAA Division I Regional team championships from 2014-15. Sowa coached a total of 29 athletes to WIAA Division I Individual State Meet qualifiers.
A 2011 graduate of UW-River Falls, Sowa earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. Sowa competed in track & field for UW-River Falls and served as team captain from 2008-10. In 2009, Sowa was named WIAC Outdoor All-Conference First Team in the heptathlon and Second Team in the javelin. Sowa was a two-time national qualifier in the heptathlon in 2009 and 2010.
