Macy Merchant
  • Title:
    Volunteer Assistant Coach
Macy Merchant is in her second season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Gopher Softball program. Merchant is the younger sister of sixth-year assistant coach Jessica Merchant and former Minnesota volunteer assistant Brittini Merchant.

In her first season as an assistant coach she helped the Gophers to a great season where they tied for most wins in program history going 49-11 and finished with the highest win percentage in team history. Merchant worked primarily with the team outfielders. She is a native of Wayland, Mich., where she had an accomplished career of her own as an outfielder at Central Michigan University.

With the Chippewas, Merchant finished second in the school's record books in career batting average (.363), third in career stolen bases (72), sixth in career runs (116) and eighth in career hits (196). The two-time All-MAC selection and two-time Academic All-MAC honoree helped lead CMU to a conference title in 2013. That year, Merchant was named to the league's all-tournament team and was a second-team NFCA all-region selection.

Merchant also earned Central Michigan's lone team award, the Beth Pawlak Award. The award is voted on by the team and recognizes the dedicated player whose leadership, hard work, and positive attitude serve as an inspiration to those she encounters both on and off the field.

After graduating from CMU with a degree in special education and minors in physical education and health education in 2013, Merchant volunteered with the Chippewas' softball team and was an assistant coach of the Sacred Heart Academy varsity softball team in Mt. Pleasant Mich.
