First-team honors for 'U' sophomore
WILMINGTON, Del. - Cecilie Christensen of the Minnesota rowing team was named a 2023 Pocock Racing Shells First Team All-American it was announced by the College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).
Christensen, an All-Big Ten First Team honoree during her sophomore campaign, rowed with the varsity eight crew in all six events this season, including a sixth-place result at the Big Ten Championship in May.
"This year, Cece asserted herself as the top port in our program, represented her country at the U23 World Championships in 2022 and was the rhythm maker of our varsity eight," head coach Alicea Strodel said. "She has a high rowing IQ and is an impact athlete. I'm happy that the awards committee chose to recognize her in this way."
A native of Hellerup, Denmark, Christensen is the first Golden Gopher to land on the first team since 2008 when Jennifer Barnes picked up the honor for the third-straight year.
The All-American awards committee reviews coaches' nominations and supporting data using that information for the selection process. Boat performance, nomination rank, coach's comments, individual achievements, and 2,000-meter erg scores are also considered.
