The match started at 184, where No. 1 ranked Brandon Eggum defeated Steve Alf with a 12-4 major decision. At 197, freshman Owen Elzen defeated Wisconsin1s Ryan LaGrange 11-5 to increase the Golden Gopher lead. Heavyweight Brock Lesnar, ranked No. 2 in the country, recorded his sixth pin of the season over Jason Pernat in 1:34.
Freshman Leroy Vega provided some entertainment with a close 8-6 overtime decision over freshman Kevin Black at 125. Senior Bart Golyer defeated Mark Trinitapoli 16-0 in a technical fall decision at 133 to give Minnesota a commanding 21-0 lead after five matches.
Freshman Chad Erikson led off the second set of matches with a pin over Corey McNellis in 57 seconds at 141. Senior Troy Marr shutout Dusty Coufal in a 10-0 major decision at 149. No. 1-ranked senior Chad Kraft defeated P. J. Dowling with a 17-1 technical fall decision at 157.
Minnesota did lose its last two matches of the afternoon. No. 3-ranked Don Pritzlaff decisioned No.6-ranked Josh Holiday 3-1 at 165 to earn Wisconsin its first points. At 174, Kole Clauson defeated junior Delaney Berger with a 15-7 major decision.
