SEARS SETS SCHOOL RECORD AT NORTHWEST OPEN

FieldMinnesota junior Neketa Sears set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles Saturday at the unscored Northwest Open at the University of Minnesota Field House.

Sears recorded a time of 8.79 seconds in the 60 hurdles, breaking the mark of 8.82 set by Lisa Hansen in 1981. Yvette White placed second in the event with a time of 8.89.

Sophomore Stacie Blaskowski recorded the second-best pole vault mark in Minnesota history by winning the event with a mark of 10 feet, 2 inches (3.10 meters), a meet record.

Sophomore Aubrey Schmitt won the shot put with a toss of 49 feet, 3 3/4 inches (15.03), while junior Nicole Chimko placed second at 45-7 (13.89). Schmitt also placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 54-9 1/2 (16.70).

Senior Kim Heath placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.74 seconds and sophomore Pattie Galle placed third in the 400 in a time of 60.99.
