GOLDEN GOPHER CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES 16TH AT NCAA PRE-MEET

The top finisher for the Golden Gophers was senior Eric Pierce, who took 26th place with a time of 24:46.78. Freshman Scott Utne was the next finisher for Minnesota when he took 44th place with a time of 25:04.49 and sophomore Andrew McKessock rounded out the top three for the Golden Gophers when he finished in 77th place with a time of 25:28.19.
Steve Fein from Oregon won the meet with a time of 24:06.31. Fein also won the 1999 Roy Griak Invitational, held earlier this fall at the Les Bolstad Golf Course with a time of 24:13. Matt Lane of William and Mary took second place with a time of 24:08.
The Golden Gophers will host the Marathon Sports 5k on Saturday, Oct. 23, before heading to Penn State University on Saturday, Oct. 30, to compete in the 1999 Big Ten Championships.
