ILLINOIS DEFEATS MINNESOTA IN BIG TEN VOLLEYBALL SHOWDOWN

croThe Minnesota volleyball team had its 10-match winning broken at the hands of Illinois in four games, 15-13, 15-6, 2-15, 16-14. The match drew 3,703 fans to the Sports Pavilion, the second-largest crowd in Pavilion history to see a volleyball match.
Illinois and Minnesota are now deadlocked for second place in the Big Ten at 7-1, one match behind Penn State. The Gophers are 16-4 overall, while Illinois is 11-3.
Nicole Branagh had 20 kills to lead Minnesota, but was also forced into 11 errors and hit .155 for the match. Stephanie Hagen added 14 kills for the Gophers. Shadia Haddad had 16 kills to lead Illinois' balanced attack.
The Gophers had 37 hitting errors in the match, the second-most errors that they have had in a match this season. That forced Minnesota to a .194 hitting percentage, compared to Illinois' .262 hitting percentage.
Minnesota will next play at Ohio State on Friday at 6 p.m. (CDT).
