DThe Golden Gopher men's hockey team fell to the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night at Mariucci Arena. Freshman Dan Welch and Shawn Roed picked up their first career goals in the losing cause.

North Dakota jumped on the board first at 12:53 of the first period when Wes Dorey beat Gopher netminder Adam Hauser on the power play. Minnesota answered less than two minutes later when Welch, from a sharp angle, bounced the puck off of the inside of North Dakota goaltender Karl Goehring's skate. The puck slid past the line to tie the game at 1-1.

North Dakota came out strong to open the second period, scoring two goals within a span of 22 seconds less than four minutes into the period. Minnesota would get to within one as Roed put home the rebound of Jordan Leopold's shot from the point. The power-play goal came with just 34 second left in the game. Minnesota had a couple of good chances to tie the game, but could not net the equalizer.

Minnesota will face non-conference opponent Boston College next Friday and Saturday nights in a two game series at Mariucci Arena.
