Minnesota dominated the first half of play and took a 10-7 lead into halftime. The Golden Gopher defense held the Buckeyes to just 12 yards on the ground and just two first downs in the first half.
In the second half, Ohio State turned up its offense and added 143 additional running yards plus 13 first downs. Running back Michael Wiley broke free to score on a 44-yard touchdown run for the Buckeyes to go ahead 14-10. Ohio State also tacked on two field goals in the fourth quarter to win the game.
Wiley finished the day with 118 yards rushing on 22 carries and two touchdowns. Kicker Dan Stultz connected from 40 and 43 yards out respectively.
Senior running back Thomas Hamner collected 115 yards and 25 carries with a seven-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Billy Cockerham rushed for 66 yards on 19 carries and a nine-yard touchdown run. He also completed six of 11 pass attempts for 100 yards.
The Golden Gophers drop to 5-2 on the year, 2-2 in the Big Ten. Ohio State moves to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten.
