MARC RYAN NAMED ASSISTANT A.D. FOR MEN'S ATHLETICS

relationsThe University of Minnesota Men's Athletics Department announced today that Marc Ryan has been named Assistant Athletics Director for External Relations. He will oversee efforts in the media relations department, marketing department, spirit squads, and group sales.< p> Ryan, 37, has been with men's athletics for the past 10 years, including the last six as the media relations director. Upon arriving at the University of Minnesota, Ryan served as an assistant sports information director under Bob Peterson.

A 1984 graduate of Moorhead State University and native of Rosemount, Minn., Ryan came to the University of Minnesota in 1989 after two years as an assistant SID at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. Prior to that, he was the sports information director, head cross country coach and assistant track & field coach at Macalester College in St. Paul for two years.

"I am looking forward to the challenges that this new position will bring and am excited to continue to be a part of Golden Gopher athletics," said Ryan. "This is an exciting time to be a part of men's athletics, and I am looking forward to the bright future that lies ahead for this department."

"Marc is a very talented administrator whose abilities will significantly help in the coordination of the efforts of all of our external units," said Director of Men's Athletics Dr. Mark Dienhart.

Ryan, who will continue to handle the football duties through the end of the 1999 season, will assume his additional duties immediately. A search for Ryan's previous position will commence sometime in the spring of 2000.
