WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING DEFEATS IOWA STATE

Senior Jenny Hennen recorded Minnesota's fastest time of the season in the 200-yard IM, winning in 2 minutes, 7.47 seconds. She also won the 50 freestyle in 23.92 seconds. Junior Katy Christoferson won two events, the 1000 freestyle (10:22.98) and the 100 butterfly (57.94).
Minnesota earned the top three spots in the 100 backstroke, with junior Ann Cahoy first in 59.47, junior Amy Mickschl second in 1:00.03 and freshman Dana Baum third (1:00.13). The Gophers also swept the top three in the 200 backstroke and the 100 freestyle.
In the 200 backstroke, sophomore Jinny Smedstad won in 2:04.07, while Baum was second (2:06.68) and Mickschl third (2:07.25). In the 100 freestyle, freshman Arianna Gardner was first, with Cahoy second and senior Andrea Simakova third.
Other event winners were Simakova in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.75), junior Emily Deppe in the 200 breaststroke (2.25.69) and Minnesota's 200 medley relay team of Deppe, junior Kim Harrod, sophomore Karen Egerman and Smedstad (1:49.88).
Minnesota will host Northwestern on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the University Aquatic Center.
