GOPHERS SWEEP BUCKEYES WITH 7-1 VICTORY

earningAmbria Thomas and Ronda Curtin each had a pair of goals and Minnesota outshot Ohio State 42-19, earning a 7-1 victory a sweep of the teams' two-game WCHA-Women's League series in Columbus, Ohio.

Thomas got the Gophers on the board early at 8:05 of the opening period and co-captain Kris Scholz made it 2-0 six minutes later and the guests were on their way.

Thomas connected for her second goal of the night, and 100th career point, just 1:07 into the second period before the Buckeyes got their only goal of the weekend, a soft shot from the right point by Katie Frohreich that changed direction in flight and got underneath Minnesota goalie Erica Killewald at 4:49.

Courtney Kennedy scored on the power play with 5:43 to play in the period and the Gophers added three goals in the final period, a power-play goal by Tracy Engstrom and the last two by Curtin.

Killewald had 18 saves to earn the victory for Minnesota while her counterpart, Ohio State's Erica Glaser, stopped 35 shots.

The Gophers return to action Nov. 19-20, when they will be in Madison for a two-game series with Wisconsin.
