GOPHER WOMEN HARRIERS FOURTH AT NCAA REGIONAL MEET

KoreneKansas State claimed four of the top five individual places, scoring 40 points, to defeat a field of 25 teams, including fourth-place Minnesota.

The Wildcats' Amy Mortimer defeated teammate Korene Hinds by less than a second, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 59 seconds.

The Gophers were led by senior Rasa Michniovaite, who finished eighth overall in 17:25. Junior Elaine Eggleston also turned in a top-20 effort, placing 16th in 17:43.

Minnesota's other scoring came from sophomore Victoria Moses, 26th in 18:01; junior Corinne Nimtz, 27th in 18:04, and frosh Anita Menden, 37th in 18:15.

Both Kansas State and runner-up Missouri earned automatic berths in the NCAA Championships, Nov. 22, in Bloomington, Ind. Minnesota, ranked 16th nationally, will learn Monday if it is to receive one of 13 at-large berths.
