NYSTROM EARNS BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

GophersUniversity of Minnesota freshman placekicker Dan Nystrom earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors for his outstanding performance in the Golden Gophers' 44-20 win over Indiana at the Metrodome Saturday. Nystrom has been selected as a co-Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week along with fellow placekicker Neil Rackers of Illinois.

Nystrom scored 14 points against the Hoosiers with three field goals and five exra points. In the process, he broke the school single-season scoring record with 79 points thus far in 1999. Nystrom split the uprights from a a career-high 51 yards out to record the longest field goal in Minnesota history by a freshman. He also was perfect from 25 and 24 yards out, respectively.

Nystrom's honor marks the first time that a Golden Gopher player has won back-to-back Big Ten Player of the Week honors since the inception of the award in 1987.
