11/20/1999 12:00:00 AM | Athletics

stopWinny Brodt collected four points and Crystal Nicholas, making just her second start of the season, stopped 13 shots as Minnesota defeated Wisconsin 5-0.

Brodt scored just 59 seconds into the game and set up three other goals, including a second-period power-play goal by Ronda Curtin and a third-period power-play goal by Ambria Thomas. Nadine Muzerall scored Minnesota's other two goals.

Nicholas, who had not started since a 10-1 win at St. Cloud State, Oct. 16, earned her second win in as many nights. She made a relief appearance Friday, playing the final two periods. The shutout against the Badgers was the eighth of her career.

Minnesota was penalized a season-high 11 times but managed to kill all eight Wisconsin power plays. The Gophers were 3-for-4 on the power play and they held a 31-13 advantage in shots on goal.

Minnesota will be in action again Tuesday, Nov. 23, when they host Minnesota State, Mankato at 7:05 p.m.
