MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PLACES 15TH AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

tThe University of Minnesota men's cross country team placed 15th with 392 points at the NCAA Championships held at Indiana University on Monday. The Golden Gophers' 15th-place finish was the highest team finish since they finished12th in 1981 and nine places better then the team's 24th-place finish last year. Minnesota was led by sophomore Andrew McKessock, who placed 64th with a time of 31:41.

Arkansas captured the team title for the second year in a row with 58 points, while Wisconsin finished with 185 points to take second place. Michigan, the other Big Ten team in the championships, placed fifth with 155 points.

McKessock paced the Golden Gophers with his 64th-place finish, while senior Jeremy Polson placed 97th with a time of 32:03.70. Sophomore Joey Corr placed 102nd with a time of 32:06, while senior Eric Pierce placed 106th with a time of 32:07.70.

South Alabama's David Kimani captured the individual title with a time of 30:06, while Arkansas's Michael Power took runner-up honors with a time of 30:09.60.

This is the third consecutive year the Golden Gophers have gone to the NCAA Championships under Head Coach Steve Plasencia. In 1997, in their first trip back since 1981, they placed 18th. In 1998, the team placed 24th.
