reJuli Montgomery, Nicole Lee and Laurie Seidl represented the University of Minnesota soccer team on All-Big Ten honor squads, announced at the Big Ten Conference Tournament banquet, Thursday, in Bloomington, Ind.

Montgomery, a sophomore defender from St. Paul, Minn. (Cretin-Derham Hall H.S.), was named to the first team, which is voted on by the Big Ten coaches. Montgomery, who has played all but 43 minutes in the Gophers' 18 matches this season, is a leader on a Minnesota defense that has posted eight shutout victories this season.

"I'm extremely excited for Juli," said Minnesota head coach Sue Montagne. "She is having an outstanding season. This award is definitely well deserved."

Lee and Seidl were All-Big Ten Second Team honorees, the third time in both of their careers that the duo has garnered all-conference accord. Lee, a senior from Champlin Park, Minn. (Champlin Park H.S.), leads the Gophers in goals scored (8) and points (24) this season, and ranks third in Minnesota history in both categories with 45 goals and 116 career points. She was a first-team All-Big Ten pick in 1998 and a second team choice in 1997.

A junior forward, Seidl tops the Gophers with 11 assists this season, a mark tied for the second-best single-season total in Minnesota history. The St. Charles, Ill. (St. Charles H.S.), native was also a first-team honoree in 1998 and a second-team pick in 1997.

Big Ten champion, Penn State, landed seven players on the honor squads, including freshman forward Christie Welsh, who was honored with both the Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year honors. Iowa's Stephanie Gabbert was named the Coach of the Year.

Minnesota opens Big Ten Tournament action on Friday, with a 1 p.m. match against Ohio State.
