MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING LEADS AFTER DAY ONE

wonThe 11th-ranked Minnesota men's swimming and diving team is leading No. 14 Nebraska (128-58) and No. 22 North Carolina (120-64) after 10 events at the University Aquatic Center. The Golden Gophers won seven events and placed third or higher in nine of the 10.

Senior Yoav Meiri finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 48.55 seconds and third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.10. Junior Alex Masura (47.97), sophomore Ben Bartell (51.05), and freshman Todd Smolinski (51.24) took the top three places in the 100 backstroke, while Junior Dan Croaston won the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 332.45.

The competition continues on Saturday at noon.
