Gophers Close Out Day One of Competition at 2026 Men’s Big Ten Championships

MADISON, WIS. – The University of Minnesota men's swimming and diving program kicked off the 2026 Men's Swimming and Diving Big Ten Championships today across the border in Madison, picking up an eighth and sixth place finish throughout the first two events at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.
The Gophers started off the night in the 200 medley relay, tallying an eighth place finish with a final time of 1:24.78. Davide Harabagiu jumpstarted the effort with a 21.25 split, followed by Luke Mychalowych who put up a 24.04 split. Jacob Johnson swam to a 20.07 split in the third leg, with Ryan Slonac anchoring the relay with a 19.42 split.
Minnesota closed out the first day of competition in the 800 free relay, tallying a sixth place finish with a final time of 6:15.82. Daniel Eiche led the effort with a 1:34.90 split, followed by Jacob Johnson with a 1:33.51 split. Joe Polyak continued on with a 1:33.35 split, before Luke Brennan anchored the race with a 1:34.06 split.
The University of Minnesota sits at eighth place in the team standings after one day of competition, with a total team score of 92 points. The University of Michigan sits at the top of the team standings with a total team score of 116.
The Gophers are back in the water at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center for day two tomorrow. All the action is set to kickoff at 10:00 AM.
