Minnesota junior Nicole Branagh (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) was named Wednesday to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American second team. It is the Gophers' first All-American since Katrien DeDecker was named to the first team since 1996. Branagh led the Big Ten with 679 kills and 5.44 kills per game in 1999. She was the first Gopher to lead the conference in kills since DeDecker in 1993. Branagh has 1,723 career kills in three seasons and is on pace to become the Big Ten's all-time leader in kills. Minnesota compiled its second-best record in school history with a 27-9 mark in 1999 and set a school record with 15 Big Ten wins this season. The 15-5 Big Ten record earned Minnesota a second-place finish for the first time since 1999.
