GOLDEN GOPHER WRESTLERS ADVANCE AT LAS VEGAS INVITATIONAL

The No. 3-ranked University of Minnesota wrestling team competed in the Las Vegas Invitational in Prim, Nev., this afternoon and evening. Minnesota is in second place with 47.5 points. Oklahoma State is winning the tournament with 56 points. Illinois is in third with 46 points, Pittsburgh was fourth with 33.5 points and Boise State is in fifth with 32.5. Quaterfinals were not yet complete for the night at the time of this release.

Six of nine wrestlers for Minnesota had advanced to either the round of 16 or round of 32. At 125 pounds, sophomore All- American Leroy Vega has advanced to the round of eight with a 17-6 major decision over Jabbar Floyd of American International. At 141 pounds sophomore All-American Chad Erikson defeated Marc Bullard of Findlay with a 10-5 decision to advance to the round of eight.

Redshirt freshman Jared Lawrence also advanced to the round of eight with a technical fall decision over Ryan Betley of Buffalo 20-4 in 6:22. Senior Delaney Berger advanced to the round of eight with a 11-3 major decision over Nicholas Almeida of Montana-State-Northern.

Also advancing to the round of eight is senior All-American Brandon Eggum with a pin over Cory Hintz in 6:21. Sophomore Owen Elzen defeated Terry Tuzzolino of Harvard with a 13-2 major decision to advance to the round of eight.
