GOPHER SOFTBALL RECRUITS ANNOUNCED

theMinnesota co-head softball coaches Lisa Bernstein and Julie Standering have announced that three athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play softball at the University of Minnesota for the 2001 softball season.

They are:

Hailee Nanchy (Infielder, Ontario Calif.) "A powerful hitter that has an amazing glove at first base. She is a vocal leader who has great knowledge of the game of softball," said Standering.

Piper Marten (Pitcher, Farmington, N.M.) "A fierce competitior on the mound who has a great rise ball and complete command of her other pitches," said Standering.

Jessi Green (Pitcher, San Diego, Calif.) "A physically strong pitcher who is a hard worker. She is capable of playing the infield as well, and has a strong bat," said Standering.

The Minnesota softball team finished the 1999 season as the 22nd-ranked team in the country with a 48-20 record. The Gophers won their first-ever Big Ten Tournament championship in 1999 and finished second in the regular season. Minnesota opens its 2000 season by hosting the Metrodome Softball Classic on February 10.
