MINNESOTA DEFEATS ALASKA-ANCHORAGE 5-1 AT MARIUCCI ARENA

two-gaThe University of Minnesota men's hockey team defeated the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 5-1 at Mariucci Arena Saturday afternoon. Five different Golden Gophers scored goals as Minnesota stopped a two-game losing streak.

Minnesota jumped to a 2-0 first period after goals from seniors Mike Anderson and Reggie Berg. The Golden Gophers outshot the Seawolves 10-3 in the period. Alaska-Anchorage would finally get on the board at the 13:20 mark of the second period when off of a turnover, Chris Pont scored on the breakaway. Dave Spehar gave Minnesota its two-goal lead back with a power-play goal from Erik Westrum and Reggie Berg with just 45 seconds left in the second period.

The Golden Gophers would pad the lead with two goals in the final minute of the game. Senior Wyatt Smith scored an empty-netter at 19:16 and freshman Erik Wendell scored 25 seconds later. Freshman goaltender Adam Hauser stopped 17-of-18 shots to capture the victory.
