In the 10-4 victory against St. Cloud State, junior right-hander Chadd Clarey, a transfer from Des Moines Area Community College, made his maroon and gold debut a memorable one. He started for the Golden Gophers and pitched three scoreless innings with one hit allowed and six strikeouts.
Minnesota broke a scoreless tie with a five-run third inning, highlighted by a two- run home run by redshirt freshman Jason Kennedy, the first hit and home run of his collegiate career. St. Cloud State closed the gap with a three-run fourth inning, but the Golden Gophers put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the inning to take control of the game.
Quinlan finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored while junior Matt Scanlon added a double and two RBIs. The Golden Gophers stole seven bases against the Huskies in the victory.
Against Viterbo, the V-Hawks scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 7-4 lead. Minnesota scored a run in the eighth, but in the bottom of the ninth inning with runners on second and third with two outs, Kennedy's drive to left-center was chased down by centerfielder David Ryder to end the game and the threat. Quinlan was 4-for-4 in the loss while junior Adam Horton added three hits.
Minnesota travels to the state of Alabama this weekend for a seven-game, 10-day road trip.
