GRAPPLERS FINISH BIG TEN SEASON UNDEFEATED

The No. 2-ranked Golden Gopher wrestling team defeated No. 18 Northwestern 25-15 in Evanston, Ill., this evening and in so doing completed their 1998-99 regular dual meet schedule with a flawless 9-0 record in the Big Ten Conference. Minnesota has only accomplished this feat once before during the 1952-53 season.

No. 6-ranked senior Troy Marr defeated Jon Friedstate of Northwestern with a 11-0 major decision victory at 149 pounds to put Minnesota on the board after three straight losses. At 157 pounds, senior Chad Kraft defeated Jason Erwinski with a 22-7 technical fall decision to give the Golden Gophers five more points.

Senior Josh Holiday kept the ball rolling for Minnesota with a 9-4 decision over Drew Pariano at 165 pounds. Junior Brandon Eggum, ranked No. 2 in the nation, defeated Tom Ciezki with a 17-6 major decision. At 197 pounds, senior Tim Hartung improved his overall record to 31-0 with a forfeit. Junior Brent Boeshans decisioned Josh Saul 7-5 at heavyweight to close out the match and the victory for Minnesota.
