GULBRANDSEN, SCHMITT WIN TITLES AT BIG TENS

Gulbrandsen recorded a leap of 42 feet, 10 1/4 inches, breaking her own mark of 41-10 3/4 set earlier this season. She also placed fourth in the long jump (19-1 1/ 4) and the pole vault (3.36 meters).
Sophomore Aubrey Schmitt won the shot put on Saturday with a throw of 51-7 3/4 for the second shot put title of her career. She won the Big Ten outdoor title in 1998. Schmitt also placed third in the weight throw with a school-record distance of 59-9 3/4. Senior Yvette White set a Minnesota record in the 400 meters in a time of 56.10 seconds.
Minnesota's distance medley relay team of junior Gena Johnson, White, freshman Jenny Moylan and junior Rasa Michniovaite placed fourth in 11:50.91, the fourth- best time in school history. Junior Neketa Sears placed fifth in the 400 in 56.63, the second-best time in Minnesota history. Junior Minna Haronoja placed fifth in the 3000 meters in 9 minutes, 50.16 seconds, the eighth-fastest time in Gopher history. Sophomore Corinne Nimtz placed fifth in the 5000 in 17:10.69, good for ninth all-time for Minnesota.
=Sophomore Angie Hill placed seventh in the weight throw at 52-5 1/2. Junior Nicole Chimko placed seventh in the shot put at 46-4. Apasha Blocker placed seventh in the pentathlon with 3,580 points. Minnesota's 4x400 relay team of sophomore Pattie Galle, Moylan, Sears and White placed eighth in 3:54.30.
