GOPHERS ANNOUNCE 1999 SOCCER RECRUITING CLASS

The group includes Katherine Arndt (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) and Jordan Bieler (Redmond, Wash./East Lake) along with club teammates Meghan Jones (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) and Liz Wagner (Littleton, Colo./Green Mountain).
"This recruiting class will bring the overall speed of our team up to the national level, making us able to compete with the top-10 programs," said assistant coach Barbara Wickstrand. "Each one of these student-athletes comes from a winning program with tremendous coaches. Technically and tactically, this is one of our best classes with more speed than any in the past."
Jones and Wagner, who played for the Colorado Rush under-17 team last summer, defeated Bieler's F.C. Royals team in the West Regional and went on to claim the national championship.
Katherine Arndt, Defender, Bloomington, Minn. (Bloomington Kennedy High School
An all-state honoree in 1998...Four-year member of the Minnesota Olympic Development Program...Intended major is education.
Jordan Bieler, Midfielder, Redmond, Wash. (East Lake High School
A regional Olympic Development Program member...Club team, F.C. Royals, were under-17 West Regional runners-up in 1998...Intends to major in pre-medicine or psychology.
Meghan Jones, Defender, Littleton, Colo. (Chatfield Senior High School)
A regional Olympic Development Program member from 1995-98...Won the 1998 under-17 national championship with Colorado Rush soccer club...Honor roll member at Chatfield High...Intends to major in physical therapy or sports medicine.
Liz Wagner, Forward/Midfielder, Littleton, Colo. (Green Mountain High School)
Member of Colorado Rush team with Meaghan Jones...A regional Olympic Development Program member from 1996-98...An honor roll and National Honor Society member at Green Mountain High...Led high school team to 5A state championship in 1997...Major is undecided.
