KILLEWALD STOPS 33 IN SHUTOUT WIN OVER CORNELL

comErica Killewald stopped 33 shots for her fifth shutout of the season and Minnesota got goals from five different players in defeating Cornell 5-0 to complete a two-game sweep.

The Gophers got on the board when with 2:10 left in the opening period when Shannon Kennedy converted a Jenny Schmidgall rebound for her sixth goal of the season.

Minnesota dominated the second period, outshooting the Big Red 24-7, but managed just two goals as Emily Buchholz scored at 5:56 and Winny Brodt finished a 2-on-1 break for her seventh goal with 4.5 seconds left in the period.

Killewald then shut down Cornell in the third period as the Big Red outshot their hosts 18-7 but gave up a pair of goals on back-to-back power plays. Schmidgall scored with 7:37 to play on a 5-on-3 power play and Brittny Ralph rounded out the scoring 43 seconds later with a 5-on-4 goal.

For the game, Minnesota outshot Cornell 42-33. The Big Red's Melissa Junkala stopped 37 shots.

The Gophers finish up their three-game weekend by hosting Minnesota State, Mankato at 3:05 p.m. Sunday at Mariucci Arena. The game can be heard live on KKMS-980 AM.
