WHITE SETS SCHOOL RECORD AT IOWA STATE

mSenior Yvette White set a school record to lead the Golden Gophers at the Iowa State Invitational in Ames, Iowa. She broke her own record in the 400 meters with a time of 56.52 seconds. That broke her record of 56.71 set in 1997.

Junior Christine Gulbrandsen won the triple jump, recording a leap of 41 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Sophomore Aubrey Schmitt placed second in the shot put with a toss of 50-9 1/2, a mark that provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships. Junior Nicole Chimko placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 47-8 1/2.

In the 3000 meters, junior Minna Haronoja placed sixth in a time of 10 mintues, 3.62 seconds. In the mile run, freshman Victoria Moses placed 11th in 4:59.81 and sophomore Elaine Eggleston 13th in 5:01.76.

On Friday, three Minnesota athletes placed among the top five finishers in the weight throw.

Sophomore Aubrey Schmitt placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 58-5. Sophomore Brenda Meyer set a personal best with a toss of 53-0, more than a foot better than her previous best. Sophomore Angie Hill placed sixth at 52-3.

Sophomore Corinne Nimtz plcaed third in the 5000-meter run in a time of 17:12.65. That is the 10th-fastest time in school history.

In the pole vault, junior Christine Gulbrandsen tied for fifth place with a mark of 10-11 3/4, while sophomore Stacie Blaskowski placed ninth at 10-0.
