GOPHERS COMPLETE THREE-GAME WEEKEND WITH SHUTOUT OF MAVERICKS

Playing its third three-game weekend in four weeks, the Gophers swept Cornell, 6-1 and 5-0 Friday and Saturday, and used a three-goal outburst midway through the second period of Sunday's game to down the Mavericks.
Despite out shooting Minnesota State 15-3 in the opening 20 minutes, Minnesota was unable to get on the board until Ambria Thomas scored with 42 seconds left in the first period.
Maverick goalie Jenny Padget kept her team in the game, stopping 16 of the Gophers' first 17 shots before Shannon Kennedy scored at 7:07 of the second period. Jenny Schmidgall added her 29th goal of the season at 8:36 and Amber Hegland closed out the scoring a minute later.
Minnesota had a 45-14 advantage in shots on goal with Padgett stopping 41 shots while Crystal Nicholas recorded her fifth shutout of the season by stopping 14 shots.
The Gophers return to action next weekend with a pair of road games. They will be at Augsburg for a 7:05 p.m faceoff Saturday and at Minnesota State Sunday beginning at 4:05 p.m.
