WRESTLERS HOST SCSU AND NORTHERN IOWA ON SENIOR NIGHT

HuskiONE MORE AT HOME: The No. 2-ranked Golden Gophers will complete their home schedule this season with the senior night dual meet against St. Cloud State and Northern Iowa. Minnesota will face the Huskies at 6:00 p.m. and then No. 24-ranked Northern Iowa at 7:30 in the Sports Pavilion. The Golden Gophers will then travel to Lincoln, Neb., on Valentines Day to face the sixth-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers.

MEET THE ST. CLOUD HUSKIES: The St. Cloud State Huskies are 7-1 in dual meets so far this season and are ranked 14th in the Division III poll. The teams lone loss was at North Dakota State, where the Huskies lost 27-10 to the Bison. Last weekend the Huskies wrestled Moorhead State and defeated them in St. Cloud. The Huskies are led by 165-pound sophomore Klaus Alberts. Alberts was the lone qualifier for the NCAA Championships last season where he went 1-2. He is currently 25-3 on the season.

Minnesota leads the series with St. Cloud State 2-0, having met the Huskies twice in 1975 and 1978. In 1975, the Golden Gophers defeated St. Cloud State 28-3 and in 1978, Minnesota won 24-11.

MEET THE NORTHER IOWA PANTHERS: The Northern Iowa Panthers are celebrating 75 years of wrestling this season. This year1s team is a good mixture of both veterans and freshmen. The 1998-99 recruiting class was listed as the second-best according to InterMat/WIN magazine. Last Friday, Northern Iowa defeated Missouri 29-12 to improve its record to 7-7 overall.

THE SERIES: The Northern Iowa Panthers and Minnesota have a deadlocked tie 25-25-4 in the all-time series dating back to 1931. The last time the two teams met, Minnesota defeated the Panthers 30-9 in Owatonna, Minn on December 1, 1994. The last time Northern Iowa won was January 17, 1992, when the Panthers won 21-16 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
