GOLDEN GOPHER WRESTLERS FINISHED SECOND AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

secThe Golden Gopher wrestling team finished second in the 1999 NCAA Championships this weekend at Penn State University. The Gophers finished just two points behind the University of Iowa. It is the second consecutive year that Minnesota has finished in second place.
Needing a win in the final heavyweight match to win the championship, No. 1 ranked Stephen Neal of California State University-Bakersfied defeated Minnesota's No. 2 ranked Brock Lesnar 3-2 to win the match and secure the championship for Iowa.
At 197, Minnesota's Tim Hartung completed an undefeated season to bring home his second consecutive NCAA Championship. Hartung defeated Lee Fullhart of Iowa, 2- 1.
