GOPHERS RECEIVE THIRD SEED FOR AWCHA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

toThe Minnesota women's hockey team received the third seed in the American Women's College Hockey Alliance National Championship and will face second-seeded New Hampshire in the opening round of the tournament, Friday at Mariucci Arena.

Harvard, the top-ranked team in the country, received the top seed after defeating New Hampshire, 5-4 in overtime, Sunday afternoon. The Crimson bring a 31-1-0 record into the tournament and will face fourth-seeded Brown, 20-5-4, in the opening game beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.

The Gophers, 27-3-3, then take on the defending AWCHA champion Wildcats, 22-6-5, at 8 p.m. Friday. The semifinal losers will play for third place Saturday at 4 p.m. while the winners play for the championship at 7 p.m.

The AWCHA National Championship is sponsored by USA Hockey and is being hosted by the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission in conjunction with the Minnesota Wild.

Tickets for the event are $10 for both games either day or $15 for the tournament and can be purchased through the Minnesota Ticket Office by calling (612) 624-8080 or 1-800-U-GOPHER.
