FLORIDA STATE SWEEPS #18 MINNESOTA IN SOFTBALL TWINBILL

theThe 18th-ranked Minnesota softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Florida State on Monday, losing by scores of 5-0 and 5-2. The Gophers, playing their first games in 15 days, fall to 20-7 for the season, while Florida State improves to 21-16-1.

In the opener, Florida State scored in four of the six innings to defeat Minnesota. The Gophers were limited to two hits by Florida State pitcher Jennifer White, who struck out seven batters. The Gophers committed five errors, leading to three Florida State unearned runs. Steph Klaviter (7-4) pitched the first 5 1/3 innings and took the loss.

Florida State continued to take advantage of Minnesota mistakes in the second game, scoring five unearned runs off of five Minnesota errors. The Gophers scored a fourth-inning run on a RBI single by Jordanne Nygren. Steph Midthun scored Minnesota's other run in the fifth inning on a wild pitch. Nygren and Tammi Hays each had two hits in the second game for Minnesota. Michelle Harrison (7-2) pitched the first four innings and suffered the loss, despite not giving up an earned run.

Minnesota will continue its six-game road trip with a doubleheader at Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday at 2 p.m. (EST).
