GOPHER SOFTBALL SWEPT AT SOUTH FLORIDA

droThe 20th-ranked South Florida Bulls swept the 18th-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers by scores of 4-0 and 2-1 in a non-conference softball doubleheader. The Bulls improve to 33-13, while the Gophers drop to 22-9.

The lone run scored by Minnesota was a home run in the second game by senior shortstop Shannon Beeler. The home run was her eighth of the season and 38th of her career, tying the all-time Big Ten record for home runs set by Monica Armendarez of Indiana from 1995-98. Steph Klaviter (7-5) took the loss in the first game, while Michelle Harrison (7-3) suffered the loss in the nightcap.

Minnesota opens its home schedule with a non-conference doubleheader against Minnesota State, Mankato at the Rice Street Dome in St. Paul on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
