GOLFERS PREPARE FOR INDIANA INVITATIONAL

MINNESOTA WINS CLASSIC - The Minnesota women's golf team carded its lowest round of the season and won the 1999 Taylor Made Myrtle Beach Classic at Myrtlewood Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Gophers posted a season-low score of 305 strokes and won the two-day tournament with a total of 623, seven strokes better than second-place Iowa.
All four of Minnesota's scorers were in the 70s on the final day of the tournament. Senior Melanie Lepp (Easton, Minn./United South Central) had the best score on the final day, shooting a one-over-par 73. M.C. Mullen of Iowa was the individual champion with a two- day total of 148, six strokes better than Northwestern's Karen England and Minnesota's Kristi Weichert (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia). Weichert, the top Minnesota finisher, competed on an individual basis. Donna Boom (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea) had four birdies in her final round of 75 and finished in fourth place with a two-day total of 155. Three Gophers, Michelle Ballou (Chaska, Minn./Chaska), Jenny Bruun (Crookston, Minn./Central) and Lepp, were part of a five-way tie for fifth at 156.
