SCHMITT AND CHIMKO WIN TITLES AT OREGON HAYWARD RELAYS

Minnesota throwers won two events on Saturday at the University of Oregon Hayward Relays. Sophomore Aubrey Schmitt captured the title in the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 4 1/4 inches. Junior Nicole Chimko won the javelin crown with an effort of 172-7.
The Gophers placed second and fourth in the hammer, both with personal-best performances. Junior Beth Howard finished second with a throw of 186-2, bettering her own school record by over 10 feet (previous record set earlier this season, 176-1). Sophomore Angie Hill was fourth with a distance of 172-4.
Sophomore Brenda Meyer topped the Gophers in the discus, placing third with a personal-best toss of 153- 8.
