#6 MICHIGAN SWEEPS #22 MINNESOTA IN SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER

Minnesota scored the first two runs of the opener in the fourth inning. Dana Ballard dropped a two-out double into right field, scoring Jordanne Nygren and Ninette Mohns. Michigan rallied to tie the game 2-2 with single runs in the fourth and fifth inning, and won the game in the sixth inning on a three-run double by Stefanie Volpe. Michelle Harrson relieved Steph Klaviter in the fifth inning and took the loss, falling to 7-5 on the season.
In the nightcap, Michigan sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring five runs on four hits. Minnesota scored an unearned run in the bottome of the first inning, but Michigan answered with its own unearned run in the second inning to take a 6-1 lead. Angel Braden hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, her first of the season, to cut the Michigan lead to 6-3. The Wolverines added two runs in the seventh inning to complete the scoring. Heather Brown did not make it out of the first inning for Minnesota and took the loss, her first in nine decisions this season.
The Gophers and Wolverines will complete their three-game series Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m. (EDT).
