GOLFERS CONTINUE SEASON AT THE HAWKEYE INVITATIONAL THIS WEEKEND

WEICHERT NOTCHES SECOND-PLACE FINISH AT INDIANA - Senior Kristi Weichert (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia) carded a three-round total of 231 to tie for the individual title, but lost the medalist honor to Ohio State's Lisa Strom, at the Indiana Invitational.
The Gophers finished fourth as a team with a total of 948 strokes, 14 strokes behind champion Indiana's 934. Ohio State placed second at 937, while Purdue was third at 947.
Weichert, Strom and Ohio State's Natalie Mosher all turned in a 9-over par 231 in the 54-hole tournament. The players returned to the 17th hole to begin the playoff. All three players pared the hole. On the 18th, Strom hit par, while Weichert and Mosher bogeyed the hole, giving Strom the medalist honor.
Gopher senior Melanie Lepp (Easton, Minn./United South Central) scored the invitational's lowest round, an even-par 74, on Sunday to improve her standing to a tie for 19th with a total of 240. She started the final round in a tie for 38th.
