GOPHER GOLFERS HEAD TO OHIO STATE FOR THE BUCKEYE INVITATIONAL

beGOLDEN GOPHERS SET FOR LAST REGULAR-SEASON TEST - The University of Minnesota's women's golf team will compete in the Lady Buckeye Invitational, Saturday-Sunday, April 24-25, in their final tune-up before the Big Ten Championships. The 54-hole tournament will be contested at the Ohio State Scarlet Course. The course plays st 6,037 yeards and par 72. Two rounds will be played on Saturday followed by one round on Sunday. A shotgun start is scheduled for both days at 8:30 a.m.

SENIOR TRIO LEADS GOPHERS TO RUNNER-UP FINISH - Seniors Michelle Ballou, Donna Boom and Melanie Lepp notched top-ten finishes in leading the University of Minnesota women's golf team to a runner-up showing at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa, on Sunday.

Indiana won the team title with 614 (307-307) strokes, and captured the top four individual honors. Minnesota tallied 638 (318-320) for second, while Northwestern was third at 645 (327-318).

Ballou shot a 5-over par 78 in the second round to move into a tie for fifth place at 157 (79-78). Boom and Lepp shot identical rounds of 79 on both days to finish in a tie for seventh place at 158 (79-79).

Indiana's Erin Carney held on to win medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 151. Carney carded a 79 on Sunday after shooting the tournament's only sub-par round, a 1-under 72, on Saturday.

Other Gopher finishes were Kristi Weichert, who tied for 25th at 165 (81-84) and Jenny Bruun, who tied for 34th at 169 (85-84). Megan Stier competed on an individual basis and placed in a tie for 30th at 167 (88-79).
