1999 GREAT GOPHER SPORTS AUCTION RAISES RECORD AMOUNT

tThe University of Minnesota Men's Athletics Department announced today that the fourth annual Great Gopher Sports Auction held last Saturday at Williams Arena raised a record amount of $88,372. That total surpasses last year's record amount of $75,000.

The single item which went for the highest amount was a steak dinner for eight people with Golden Gopher Head Football Coach Glen Mason and his wife Kate. That item brought in $4,200. The next highest item was a season ticket package for Golden Gopher basketball which went for $3,800. A VIP Package to the 2000 Big Ten Basketball Tournament went for $1,600, while the autographed jersey of Randy Moss brought in $1,500.

Proceeds from the auction benefit the 11-sport Williams Fund scholarship program, which is also on track for another record-breaking year. For more information on the Williams Fund call (612) 625-1001.
