In the opener, Minnesota senior pitcher Steph Klaviter threw her fifth career one-hitter, allowing a second-inning single by Wisconsin's Lindy Barth. Minnesota scored two unearned runs in the second inning and four runs in the fourth inning to support Klaviter. Steph Midthun had two hits and a run scored, while Jordanne Nygren drove in two runs with a fourth-inning single.
The Gophers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to complete the doubleheader sweep. In the third inning, Michelle Bennett tied the game with a two-run triple. Morgan Holden followed with a single to score Bennett and give Minnesota a 3-2 lead. Angel Braden drove in Minnesota's final run in the fifth inning with a groundout. Wisconsin's Julie Borchard homered in the top of the seventh inning to cut the Minnesota lead to 4-3, but left the tying run on first base. Klaviter pitched the first 4 1/3 innings to win her 13th game, while Michelle Harrison retired the final batter for her fourth save.
The Gophers return home to host Indiana in a three-game series this weekend at the Bierman Softball Complex. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m., while Sunday's single game starts at noon.
