. Minnesota tightened up the defense the last three innings and the offense woke up in the eighth inning when 11 players batted and six runs crossed the plate to give the team its first lead of the game. The Golden Gophers had five hits that inning and two walks. The big blow came from freshman Jack Hannahan who hit a one out, bases loaded double. . Minnesota starter Kelly Werner pitched six innings without a decision, striking out five, walking three and giving up six unearned runs on five hits. Relief pitcher Vince Gangl picked up his first career victory, giving up one run on two hits in three innings pitched. Hoosier reliever Mike Wilson took the loss for Indiana. The two teams play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Minnesota raised its record to 29-9, 10-3, while Indiana fell to 28-10, 6-7.
