GOLFERS TRAVEL TO PURDUE FOR THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

OHIO STATE & INDIANA FAVORITES FOR TITLE - No.16 Ohio State and No. 19 Indiana head into the Big Ten Championship as favorites to win the title. Indiana, the defending champion, has won three of the last four titles. The Hoosiers feature 1998 medalist Erin Carney in their lineup.

Minnesota, despite setting a 72-hole school-record with its score of 1,247, finished seventh. Amy Dahle was the top Gopher finisher, tying for 26th with 311. Indiana's Erin Carney and Iowa's Stacey Bergman tied for medalist honors with 299.
GOPHERS BANK ON EXPERIENCED GOLFERS - Minnesota looks for the experience of its four seniors to lead the way in this weekend's Big Ten Championship. Following are the Gopher seniors Big Ten Championship finishes:
Melanie Lepp 1998: 33rd (313) 1997: 40th (334) Michelle Ballou 1998: 54th (328) 1997: 37th (332) Donna Boom 1998: 31st (312) 1996: t-35th (255) *54 holes Kristi Weichert 1998: t56th (332) SENIOR TRIO LEADS GOPHERS TO RUNNER-UP FINISH - Minnesota finished in sixth place in the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, completed on Sunday. The Golden Gophers tallied a score of 315 in the third round to finish with 955. No. 16 Ohio State cruised to the team title, posting a score of 907, 22 strokes ahead of second-place Purdue's total of 929.
Senior Donna Boom (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea) paced the Gophers placing ninth with rounds of 78, 77 and 78 for 233. Purdue's Angela Blythe shot a 1-over 73 in the final round for 220, edging Ohio State's Amber Amstutz by one stroke.
Other Gopher finishes were Melanie Lepp (Easton, Minn./United South Central), tied for 24th at 239 (81- 81-77), Katie Bakken (Brooklyn Center, Minn./Brooklyn Center), tied for 31st at 242 (84-79-79), Michelle Ballou (Chaska, Minn./Chaska), tied for 45th at 246 (83- 82-81), Cindy Cannon (Big Lake, Minn./Monticello), tied for 45th at 246 (82-83-81) and Kristi Weichert (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia), 49th at 247 (81-81-85).
