KLAVITER NAMED BIG TEN PITCHER OF THE WEEK

MinMinnesota senior pitcher Steph Klaviter was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week today by the conference office. The right-hander from New Ulm, Minn., was 5-0 with a 0.29 ERA over 24 innings pitched and was Minnesota's winning pitcher in each of its five games last week. Klaviter limited the opposition to 16 hits and four walks in 24 innings while striking out 20 batters. She threw her fifth career one-hitter against Wisconsin last Wednesday in a 6-0 victory. Klaviter tossed her 20th career shutout in a 10-0, five-inning win against Indiana on Sunday.

Klaviter is Minnesota's all-time winningest pitcher with 77 wins and is second on Minnesota's career list with 690 innings pitched, 351 strikeouts and is tied for second with 20 shutouts. This season, Klaviter is 16-7 with a 1.24 ERA. She has struck out 101 batters in 152 innings and opponents are batting .213 against her.

Minnesota is 36-15 overall and 9-5 in the Big Ten, good for second place. The Gophers, winners of eight of their last nine games, play at Northwestern in a doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m.
