JAMES MCLEAN NAMED BIG TEN ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

MDefending NCAA Chmapion James McLean has been named Big Ten Athlete of the Week for his efforts in last weekend's Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. McLean captured individual medalist honors to lead the Golden Gophers to the team championship in the 18-team event.

McLean, a sophomore from Wahgunyah, Victoria, Australia leads the Big Ten with a scoring average of 70.269 in 26 rounds of play this season. He posted his fifth consecutive top ten finish with his title last weekend, and is a cumulative 29 under-par in his last five tournaments. A total of 13 of his last 14 rounds have been at or under par.

McLean, who was a first team All-American as a freshman last season, is currently attempting to win back-to- back Les Bolstad Awards. The honor is given to the conference golfer with the lowest stroke average on the season. McLean currently leads Northwestern's Luke Donald by less than two-tenths of a stroke heading into this weekend's Big Ten Championships at Bolstad/ University Golf Course.

The Golden Gophers tee off at 8:40 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. in the first two rounds of the conference tournament on Friday. The championships continue with round three on Saturday and the fourth and final round on Sunday.
