Purdue scored 45 points, claiming four of the top six spots in the pole vault and the top two spots in the hammer, to lead the team race. Minnesota is second with 25 points, followed by Wisconsin with 18, Michigan 10, Indiana 8, Ohio State 6, Michigan State 3 and Iowa 2.
Gulbrandsen set a school record in the pole vault by clearing 3.60 meters (11 feet, 9 _ inches). The Gophers also got 11 points in the hammer where Angie Hill placed third and Brenda Meyer fourth. Aubrey Schmitt finished 10th in the event.
