In the first game, senior Aron Amundson's three-run double to center field started a five-run third inning as Minnesota cruised to an 8-0 victory. Josh Holthaus drove in Amundson with a RBI single to center and later scored on an error by centerfielder Bob Dainton.
In the bottom of the fourth with freshman Scott Howard at second, senior Robb Quinlan belted a two-run home run to right field. It was his 12th of the season and the 51st of his career. Minnesota added a run in the sixth on a RBI single from Holthaus.
Gopher starter Dan McGrath (5-0) scattered eight hits over six innings to earn the victory. He struck out two and did not allow a walk. Redshirt freshman Mike Kobow relieved McGrath and closed things out in the seventh and final inning with two strikeouts.
Northwestern's Gabe Ribas (4-5) pitched the whole way for the Wildcats and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits. He struck out three and walked one.
In the nightcap, Minnesota scored four times in the first with the help of four hits and two Wildcat errors and added two more runs in the third inning. Amundson struck again with a two-run home run, his 10th of the season. The Golden Gophers added a run in the fourth when junior Jeremy Negen scored from third on a wild pitch.
Minnesota starter Chadd Clarey (6-1) held the Wildcats to just four hits. He struck out one and walked three. Junior Bob DeWitt pitched a perfect seventh to close things out.
Northwestern starter Zach Schara (3-5) allowed seven runs (four earned) on seven hits in six innings. He struck out three in the loss.
