ROBB QUINLAN NAMED MIDEAST REGIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

AssoUniversity of Minnesota baseball player Robb Quinlan was named as the Mideast Regional Player of the Year by the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for his performance this past season. He was also named to the second team All-America by the NCBWA. Teammate Aron Amundson was named to the third team.

Quinlan, a senior from Maplewood, Minn., finished his career as the Big Ten's all-time leader in hits (345), home runs (55), doubles (79) and runs scored (249). He is also Minnesota all-time leader in hits, home runs, doubles, runs scored, RBIs (230), total bases and at- bats.

Quinlan, the 1999 Big Ten Player of the Year, batted .413 (107-for-259) this season, breaking his own single-season record for hits in the process. He was also named to the NCAA all-regional team and the Big Ten Championship all-tournament team. Quinlan is a two- time second team All-America selection by the NCBWA as he was honored for last season's performance.

Also picking up All-America honors was senior designated hitter/pitcher Aron Amundson from Mandan, N.D. Amundson was a third team All-America selection after batting .396 (76-for-192) this season, second only to Quinlan. He was second on the team with 15 home runs and third on the team with 76 hits. He also picked up all-Big Ten honors at the Big Ten Tournament and was named to the NCAA all-regional team.
