GOLDEN GOPHER BASEBALL TEAM SIGNS STEIDL

University of Minnesota Head Baseball Coach John Anderson announced today that Sam Steidl of Alexandria has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball for the Golden Gophers beginning in the 2000 season.

Steidl is a 5-11, 175-pound outfielder who played his prep baseball at Alexandria High School. He is the son of Mike Steidl who is a former Golden Gopher linebacker and the team captain of the 1973 football team. Steidl batted .453 (24-for-53) this season with two home runs, 24 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.

Also signing on to play baseball at the University of Minnesota is Gary Dick and James Rollins. Dick, a 6-3 215-pound third baseman and catcher from Grand Rapids, Minn. played his prep ball at Grand Rapids High School. Rollins is a left-handed pitcher from LeRoy, Minn. who played his prep ball at LeRoy-Ostrander High School. He was valedictorian of his class graduating with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
